Welcome to Erpelding Family Farms
We are a family run farm nestled in the peaceful rolling hills of Madison County Iowa. We raise purebred Angus cattle, club calves, Quarter Horses, Miniature horses, and farm fresh eggs.
We moved to the country to spread our wings and enjoy the changes of the year with each season. My wife and I grew up in the country and we truly missed the openness and serenity that it offers. Winter nights when the moon light reflects off the snow, making it appear so light and tranquil. Large snow flakes falling so gently from sky and our children running around trying to catch then on their tongues. The still summer nights with the stars shining bright that makes you understand just how vast the universe really is. Our children standing on the wood fence and watching the creation of life as a calf is born. Our German Shepard sitting at the top of the driveway every afternoon just waiting for our children to get off the bus. She darts to the end of the driveway and walks them to the house, making sure they are safe. The bright, sunny, spring morning when you open the windows and hear the birds chirping, the rooster crowing and the warmth of the sun beating on your face. The kids gathering eggs and running across the yard to show us the various colors of eggs they found, one trips and drops an egg then looking up as to say ‘oops’, these are priceless expressions. These are sights and sounds we moved to the country to enjoy and and share with our children so they can enjoy its beauty as we did.
Our children are very active in 4H and enjoy showing at the Madison County Fair as well as the Iowa State Fair. They are able to get a jump on showing by starting out with bottle calves and learning what responsibility is by having to feed their calf everyday. Once our kids are in fourth grade they can start showing livestock in 4H and do so by showing their choice of cattle and/or horses. The doors are open as they have the opportunity to build a project to display in the community building. 4H has so much to offer and we let our children decide what they want to participate in.
We dearly believe that the country has opened our children’s eyes to so much. They understand that nothing in life comes for free and we all work very hard for everything we have. Chores are a must at our house and all of us have learned to depend on each other and know when to pitch in and help. We have
come to appreciate the little things in life that others so often take
for granted |
